The Faith That Won’t Let Go - Matthew 15:21-28

This passage reveals a faith that refuses to be discouraged, a faith that keeps pressing toward Jesus even when the path feels confusing, quiet, or delayed. It shows us what persistent trust looks like in real life.

Jesus travels to the region of Tyre and Sidon—Gentile territory, outside the familiar boundaries of Israel’s religious life. A Canaanite woman approaches Him, crying out for her daughter’s healing. At first, Jesus is silent. Then His disciples urge Him to send her away. Even when He speaks, His words seem to reinforce the boundary between Jew and Gentile.

But she keeps coming.

She kneels. She pleads. She refuses to let go of the hope she has found in Him.

And Jesus does what He always does when He encounters genuine, persistent faith—He breaks through every barrier and brings healing. “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”

Reflection

This woman shows us a faith that is not fragile. It is not easily discouraged. It is not deterred by silence, delay, or obstacles. Her faith is rooted in a deep conviction: Jesus is the only one who can help me, and I will not stop seeking Him.

Many of us know what it feels like to pray and hear silence. To ask and wait. To wonder whether God sees us, hears us, or remembers us. This passage reminds us that silence is not absence, and delay is not denial. Sometimes the deepest work God does in us happens in the persistence—when we keep praying, keep trusting, keep coming back to Him.

The Canaanite woman teaches us that faith is not just believing God can act; it is continuing to seek Him even when the journey feels uphill.

And Jesus honors that faith.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, give us the faith of this Canaanite woman—faith that keeps seeking You, keeps trusting You, and keeps believing that Your mercy is greater than every barrier. Strengthen us when we feel discouraged. Teach us to persist in prayer, to hope boldly, and to trust that You are working even when we cannot yet see it. Amen.
